Photo Scanning and Restoration

Our scanning services are a legacy of Island Photo Centre services. We can scan photographs, slides, negatives of all formats, antique glass plates, documents and other media too.

If you need an old family image that has seen better days, scanned and digitally restored, we can do it. We can scan to high quality and make bigger images/prints from small originals, while using our skill and experience to enhance and even rebuild parts of the image that no longer exist.

Digital photo restoration can be done on practically any medium from photographs, slides (transparencies), negatives, antique photo glass plates and documents too. Scanning is done to high quality with individual needs catered for, whether the image is to be printed, digital only or for publication.

Prices vary depending on the work and time needed and each job is priced individually. Images can be printed and/or put on to USB stick.

We can also do bulk scanning and archival work for all media too. Scan resolution is again high quality and dust and scratch removal is standard. Colour restoration and any image restoration are priced on individual basis.

We can now also offer large format copying of paintings and original artworks. This can be done with the painting remaining in place, depending on the situation. Our archival service is not restricted to paintings, we can also photograph three dimensional artworks such as statues. The archival/cataloguing service uses techniques suitable for bodies such as English Heritage and National Trust and each project is priced individually.

PRINT SCANNING TO DIGITAL IMAGES

The preserving and archiving of photographs negatives or slides is a service that we have been offering for many years. We scan photographs and memories to a digital format so they can be viewed on a TV, computer, tablet or phone for the years to come. We save all of the scans to a USB stick as a matter of routine. They can also be sent via electronic transfer to an email address. 

We offer a straightforward scanning service or an enhancement option. (This is where we make the photo look as good as possible by adjusting elements to density, contrast, applying a colour balance or improving the level of fade in an image if possible) 

This service does not include any retouching. This is available under our retouch and restoration page. The aim of this service to save the print or original to a digital image so it can be viewed or re printed at any time in the future. 

We offer specialist services to preserve and convert those precious family memories into modern digital format images. Scanned slides can be saved to DVD or USB storage or sent via email transfer as we would do for any or our scanning options from all media. 

We have additional services like enhancement to bring the images to a visual standard, by adjusting the colour, density and contrast to make the images as best as we can get them. 

We clean each slide before scanning to remove loose dust and a retouching service is also available to remove scratches and any chemical mould because of storage over the years. We can scan mounted and non-mounted slides. 
All our scans are done to high resolution to ensure you can print any scanned image to a decent size, such as 8”x10 inch or “12×16” inch (if the original is good enough) We can scan smaller images such as passport sizes so they can be reproduced to “6X4”, 5”X7” or larger.

Photo restoration service price levels.

Basic level 1. Improve colour, brightness, contrast, exposure levels and basic enhancement:
£5 plus cost of print (whatever size is required)

Basic plus – level 2. All the above, plus repair to minor scratches. Minor dust spot removal, adjust sharpness.
£10 plus the cost of print (whatever size is required)

Level 3. All the above, plus repair of larger scratches, creases and cracks, stains and larger dust spots
£20 plus the cost of print (whatever size is required)

Level 4. All the above plus repair any damage on the subjects faces or the main subject area.
£30 plus the cost of print (whatever size is required)

Level 5. All the above plus photo merging, complete colour restoration, missing sections.
£50 plus the cost of print (whatever size is required)

These prices are strictly for guidance, actual quotes may vary. Restoration is done on an individual basis and we work to the customer requirements.
